Serving Northern California
REDDING – April 2, 2014 – The Redding, California, law firm of Barr and Mudford has announced the addition of Catie Barr to its roster of attorneys.
Third-generation north state born and raised, Ms. Barr is also a third-generation lawyer. Her grandfather, Everett Barr, was born in Mt. Shasta, served as a trial lawyer for many years and then as a Superior Court judge in Siskiyou County. Her father, Dugan Barr, born in Yreka, came to Redding and has been practicing Personal Injury Law since 1967.
Ms. Barr did her undergraduate work at Santa Clara University and received her law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, ranked as one of the top law schools in United States. While in law school, Ms. Barr worked in the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s office, volunteered with the Innocence Project, a volunteer organization that hears appeals of individuals who it appears may have been wrongly convicted of a crime, and she worked as clerk for one of Santa Clara County’s Superior Court judges.
“I started down the road of intellectual property law,” said Ms. Barr, “but came to realize that instead of being a cog in the wheel of high-tech companies in Silicon Valley, I wanted to have the opportunity to actually be in the court room helping individuals and families who are dealing with tough legal issues, such as those involved in serious injury situations.”
Unlike many young professionals in California who graduate from college and seek out career opportunities in large metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles or the Bay Area, Ms. Barr’s decision to return to Shasta County was not a difficult one.
“There were several reasons I wanted to come home,” she said. “My family is close and I wanted to be near them, and certainly quality of life issues played a role in my decision.”
“Now that I’m working at the firm, I’m astonished at the workload,” she added. “I thought the public defender’s office in Santa Clara was busy, but right now I’m working on eight cases, and have already been in the courtroom at a major trial in Oakland. It’s amazing. It’s just great being back.”
Representing victims of serious injury throughout the West since 1967, the firm of Barr and Mudford is headquartered in Redding, California, and represents people in all kinds of injury cases throughout the entire Northern California region, including Chico, Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area.
